What’s Happening
It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything. As usual I’m constantly trying to keep busy, and recently I’ve had to deal with some mental health issues. I try to accept that I’m disabled, and I’d like to say I made peace with that at 42, but sometimes I sit idle too long and my mind drifts — regret and despair set in, and it gets hard to climb out of those dark depths.
I don’t know if I’ve written much about this, but I took some tax refund money and fired up a “business”. I’ve spent most of this year still setting things up — filed with the state, formed an actual L.L.C., registered with the IRS, and opened a business bank account to keep everything separate.
Google is a hell of a thing to deal with as far as business registration goes. So much red tape and Google bullshit, but I’m wading through it ok so far. My website was initially outsourced to a Fiverr freelancer who took my money and just found a free website template for all my info. It was a law firm template, so I had a lot to remove and adjust. Why does an info tech/computer consultant need a judge’s gavel icon on his website? HUH FIVERR?!? Fk’r.
Business has been pretty slow going so far in this first year, but honestly I can’t complain for not really doing much for marketing. A lot of my effort has been going out and looking for funding. Not having personal auto loans or mortgages means my credit is pretty strong in this late stage of life. But I don’t want to resort to using it as a personal guarantee for business funding. I got a business account to keep shit separated.
I’ve fixed the business website and built an online store for a small handcrafted soap business. It’s actually family, and I stepped in because I didn’t like how they were being treated by their former website builder. They used Shopify’s name in their business name and basically PREYED on this senior citizen small business owner.
I used my business to open an agency account with a web hosting company, transferred her website domain name and took over her website hosting. We abandoned the shit website they built her and gave her a new one where she’s able to add and manage her own products herself. If you’re looking for a unique gift item, her soaps, candles and gift packs are ALWAYS well received.
I’ve also initiated a website for the metropolitan area to help small cleaning business owners generate leads. The effort here is to make a website SEO optimized for the large populated area to attract people who are looking for home/business cleaning to find my website among the Thumbtack and Angie cleaning links, and if they choose my site and request a quote or inquire about service, small business cleaners can get those leads sent to THEM with a low-cost subscription to my website.
I’m still trying to gain traction on this website as well.
Other than that, it’s pretty much the same ol’ same ol’ day-to-day stuff. Peace and bacon grease!
